Initially, the database of "Plantarium" contained only list of Latin names of plants. In order for Russian-language taxon names to appear in the description of taxon and on pages with images, they need to be found and added to the database.

Each added name can be accompanied by a comment explaining its origin, history, etc. Only verified facts should be stated in the comments. In doubtful situations, before adding information to the comment to the name, it should be discussed on the forum.

After adding Russian names to the site, you need to specify which categories each of them belongs to.

Who can add, correct and comment on the Russian names of taxa?

All participants of the "Plantarium" project can add new and, if necessary, correct existing Russian-language names of taxa, as well as add and correct comments (explanations) to the names.

Where can I add or correct the Russian-language names of taxa?

To manage the list of Russian-language names, there is a special page "Russian names" available for each taxon. Links to such pages are available in many places, for example:

in the menu "Edit" on the left panel of the pages "Taxon details", "List of subtaxa", "Set of images", etc.;

in the menu that appears when you click on the name of a taxon in the list of results on the page "Search for taxa";
in the context menus that appear when you right-click on the taxon name in the "Taxonomy" section on various pages;
in the context menus that appear when you right-click on the taxon name in the lists on "List of subtaxa" pages;
on the panel that opens when you click on the button to the left of the taxon name on pages with full-size images related to this taxon.

These links are visible, and the "Russian names" page is available only to project members who view the site in authorized mode.

How to add new names to a taxon?

Log in if you are not logged in.
Enter a name in the field in the "New names" section (at the bottom of the "Russian names" page).
Click the "Apply" button.

Note that you can add multiple names at the same time. To do this, after filling in the empty input field, click on the link "Add name" and enter a next name in field that appears.

How to correct the previously added name or comment?

Log in if you are not logged in.
Click on the button located to the left of the name that needs to be edited.
In the menu that appears, select the item "Change", which will activate the input field.
Correct the name/comment.
Click the "Apply" button.

To discard changes, click on the button located to the left of the changed name and select "Not change".

Please note that you can correct existing names and add new names at the same time.

How to remove the previously added name?

Only moderators of the "Plantarium" project can remove the name.

If it becomes necessary to delete the name you entered, then you can either change it to another name (applicable to the taxon, but not in the list), or ask the site administrator.
If you think that a name added by another project member should be removed, express your opinion on the forum in the discussion of this taxon.

How to add a comment to an existing name?

Click the button (or other button) located to the left of the name.
In the menu that appears, select the item "Add comment", which will cause an input field to appear.
Enter text of the comment.
Click the "Apply" button.

How is the main Russian-language name of the taxon assigned?

Only moderators of the "Plantarium" project can select the main Russian-language name.

The main Russian-language name of the taxon is selected from its names published in special botanical literature and added to the database of "Plantarium". The main name of the species or subspecific taxon have to include the main name of the genus and the epithet. When choosing the main name of the genus, one should be guided by "Flora of Eastern Europe" ("Flora of the European part of the USSR"), "Key to plants of Central Asia", "Flora of Siberia", "Vascular plants of the Soviet Far East" and other publications of a similar rank.
