Вид назван в честь Нины Афанасьевны Еповой — иркутского ботаника, исследователя флоры и растительности Южного Прибайкалья, много лет проработавшей на Хамар-Дабане и обосновавшей (совместно с А.В. Смирновым) необходимость создания здесь Байкальского заповедника.
